Illustrating children’s books has been a passion of mine for much of my adult life.
I was born in Italy, where I lived for most of my life before moving to the United States. In Italy, I studied graphic art and illustration at the Accademia delle Belle Arti in Florence. During my studies, I discovered the Flemish artists and became very interested in oil painting, especially the old masters’ technique. I was part of a group of young artists studying anatomy and portraiture in the studio of Nerina Simi and oil painting in the studio of Daniel Graves. I also furthered my watercolor technique with Albert Puplampu.
Despite my classical training, I have always been drawn to children’s books as a canvas. The transparency and immediacy of children’s books make them the perfect medium for illustrations.
I moved to Northern California several years ago with my husband and two sons. Drawing and painting are still my passion, and carving out the time to immerse myself into my art is my challenge and joy. When I am not taking care of our two peaceful greyhounds and very crazy cat, I collaborate with Schwengeler Verlag in Switzerland on their children’s stories in Ethos Magazine. In the past several years, I have also worked with Faith Alive in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and contributed to several projects through publishing houses in Italy. I am also a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI).
